4 Days in Seattle ~ 4 Days in Seattle ~

4 Days in Seattle ~ 4 Days in Seattle ~

Day 1

I think this is a good, chill first day! A full day of fun stuff but nothing too crazy.

9:30 - 10:30 : Starbucks Reserve Roastery - a good early brunch and get to explore the roastery a bit. Good preparation for a of couple hours at a museum.

11-1:30 : Museum of Pop Culture - A ton of cool exhibits including ‘Indie Game Revolution’, ‘Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses’, ‘Fantasy: Worlds of Myths and Magic’, and more! Seems like a really cool experience.

2- whatever time : Pike Place Market - explore the market for a few hours. Based on the website it looks like there’s a lot to explore! I’m sure it can occupy a lot of time. Since there’s tons of great food there I think I’d wanna hang out there until I’m full/tired.

Day 2

Always have to go shopping in a new city! Knowing myself I can wander into a few stores, but I have good self-control and enjoy looking at new items. Shopping sandwiched between good food sounds the perfect day to me!

9:00-10:30 : Petit Pierre bakery - I’m the kind of person that likes to look at the menu before I go to restaurants. If I go here I would like to try The Italian, BLTA, and their bahn mi as well as their butter croissant and cruffin!

11-5: Seattle University Village - of course, I have to get some shopping in! I prefer to go shopping early on trips because then I’m able to wear or use some of the new things I have bought. I think I’d be able to spend a good amount of time (several hours) here.

6:30-8 : Niku Niku - an all you can eat Japanese BBQ! You can’t go wrong! It may not be the biggest menu, but no limit to fresh meat cooked right in front of you! Ideal situation to be in.

Day 3

A fun experience in the morning that’s pretty calm followed by a relaxing day.

9-10:30 : Pegasus Coffee - I would love a morning stroll on the Waterfront Trail after picking up some coffee or hot chocolate here!

11- 1 : Lulumiere - just a fun little class where you get to make two candles! It’s a cute idea and I think it would be a good time! Making the candles takes 45 minutes and then you just need to let them set and I think it would be nice to hang around.

1:30-2:30 : Kerry Park - another nice little stroll and good views!

3-5:30 - Nap Time : knowing myself, after a few days exploring a new city, I know I’m gonna be a little worn out. This feels like a good amount of hanging out where I’m staying and recharging before dinner.

6:30 - Swish Swish - all-you-can-eat hot pot! I had the Japanese version of hot pot, shabu-shabu when I was in Tokyo last year. I would love to have that same kind of experience again. They have a big menu that has an amazing selection! Would love to try it!

Day 4

I’m going to let myself have a chill morning by sleeping in, grabbing breakfast nearby, and hanging out where I’m staying until lunch.

12:00-1:30 - U:don - a yummy lunch with fresh udon noodles. One of my favorite noodles, if not my favorite, is udon. The thick, chewy noodles are so good to me and have a texture I enjoy.

2- 4 : Wing Luke Museum - a unique experience about different cultures

4:30- 6 : Chihuly Garden and Glass - I think this would be a fun, somewhat quick exhibit trip. There are beautiful glass sculptures all around and I believe this would be a very memorable experience.

For the rest of the night : hang out at Pike Place Market! Since I would go here my first night and this market is a Seattle staple, I want to finish off the trip here! With so much to do, I’m sure I can occupy my time there again.

I thought it would be fun to make up a little schedule for a trip somewhere and landed on Seattle! My dad has lived there several times and became a big fan of the Seahawks! I have been there at an age where I would remember the trip, so I have wanted to visit for a while. I didn’t realize how much Asian food there is until I did some research on this! I bet it’s amazing there with such great seafood and good meats. Here’s a general schedule I would go by if I were to have four full days in Seattle!

Chicago

It’s hard not to love visiting a new city, but falling in love with a new city is different. I fell in love with Chicago in the summer of 2021. My whole family was getting together for my cousin’s wedding which further led to a girl's trip with a friend of mine. I want to take you through my trip and I have generally based the timeline and activities on my memory and the photo in my camera roll.

My parents and I arrived in Chicago and headed straight to our hotel, the Westin Chicago River North which was right on the canal in the heart of downtown Chicago. The canal was one of, if not, my favorite parts of the city. In the two weeks I was there, I spent a lot of time at the canal reading, going on walks, hanging out and sitting, and grabbing coffee. The window in our room faced the House of Blues and I happened to bring my t-shirt that has the House of Blues on it as a pajama shirt, which was a fun coincidence. Right after we checked in, my dad and I got ready to go to a Cubs game. We met my cousin, Laura, and her dad, my Uncle Gary, and we had a blast together, per usual. The Cubs beat the Cardinals 10-5 which led to my buying my favorite baseball hat. Later, we had a family dinner at an Italian restaurant with the bride and groom-to-be. After dinner, my cousins and I went to a bar together and we had so much fun. They introduced me to mocktails in the bars because they have a wide enough bar to make a variety of fun non-alcoholic drinks (I am intolerant to alcohol). One of the following days, as our family explored the city, my parents and I went to visit some family from the other side. My cousin, Ben, and his husband, Joe, live in a stunning house more south of the city than the Southside. Their house has the most beautiful details such as a silver foil ceiling in the kitchen and a crystal-ball looking thing at the bottom of the handrail for the spiral staircase. Their house has a whole history behind it and is known to be haunted. The next morning, it was wedding day! We all got ready and had some professional makeup help, which I desperately needed for my lavender eyeliner to pair with my floral dress. My cousin, Cassey, was the most breathtaking bride and had a beautiful ceremony with her husband, Brad. We all had the best time at the reception. I think that part of the reason this trip was so special was because it was the first time my older cousins saw me as an adult. I am 10-20 years younger than some of my cousins which means it took a little longer for me to mature in their eyes. But throughout this trip my cousins made me feel more accepted as we went on our little adventures and made our own memories without our parents.

For the second half of my trip, I spent it with my friend, Rachel, who lives in Chicago now! We had a fantastic time and fell more in love with this city as we explored together. First, I got us tickets to a tourist trap called, WNDR Museum. They have some cool illusions but not worth the time or money, in my opinion. We later met up with a friend who is from the suburbs of Chicago after a walk down Oak Street Beach. We met him for dinner and ended the night at Navy Pier. The view from the Ferris wheel was spectacular! The next morning we had brunch on the canal which was lovely. Like I said before, the canal is one of my favorite parts of this city and the view never gets old. Of course we had to hit the Bean which was bigger than I had expected and somewhat anticlimactic considering it’s a big silver bean. Rachel had to take an exam for a summer course, so we hung out at the Starbucks across the street from the Bean. Maybe I was a little worn out from looking at it that whole time. My friend, Lily, who I stayed with in Colorado was also in town and we got to hang out. Her friend, Brynn, lives there and she brought us to some fun little spots around town. The most memorable place is a speakeasy that had karaoke and we lived for it. I had some yummy mocktails and an absolute blast. Rachel and I just loved everything about the city. We had a great time just walking the streets and exploring the nooks and crannies of the city. I’d say the only mistake we made together was how we decided to go back to visit my cousin at his house. We didn’t want to pay for an Uber to his place, so we decided to take the red line to the last stop. Bad decision. We got an Uber and put in the address my cousin gave me and then as we got closer, we realized that the address didn’t exist. Our Uber dropped us off in the middle of a neighborhood and my cousin sprinted to get us. Honestly, I don’t think my parents know this story but it was an adventure for sure. Good times in Chicago for sure.

I love Chicago. I loved being able to spend time with a lot of my family but also being out there with a girlfriend! If I were to live in a big city, Chicago is the only one I’ve visited that I would live in. It’s a cleaner New York and I appreciate that. I want to go back as soon as I can!

‘I think my life might be better if I lived in Colorado'

-Renee Rapp

Colorado

One of my simple, yet most expensive, pleasures in life is skiing. I learned how to ski as a kid in Park City, UT but hadn’t skied anywhere like that since I was 8. I was used to icy slopes in Virginia and one trip to Canada (it took me two hours to do one run under two feet of fresh powder). During my previous trip to Colorado, I didn’t have the chance to go skiing but had always dreamed of it. Spring break in 2023, I was lucky enough to go to Boulder, Winter Park and Steamboat.

I started off in Boulder to visit one of my very best friends, Lily. Lily grew up outside of Boulder and ended up going to school at CU! The last time I visited her, she was a freshman and lived in her dorm but since it was New Years we were at her mom’s house. This time we were staying at her house in Boulder and got to explore a little bit more. We went to Dark Horse for karaoke, a get together with her friends, and spent some time with her lovely mother. We don’t get to see each other very often, but when we do, it reminds me how special Lily is to me and I cherish that.

After I hesitantly left Lily, I took the train from Denver to Winter Park and was picked up by my dad’s two best friends, Uncle Dane (my godfather) and Uncle Mikey. I see my Uncle Dane a couple times a year and I am so thankful, but I hadn’t seen my Uncle Mikey since my family and I moved from Las Vegas in 2010. It was an absolute pleasure to spend this time with them. All three of us were on the slopes almost every day. Our last day, they went around town to shops and hung out at home, but I couldn’t just sit at home while I had the chance to ski on the most amazing slopes I had ever been on.

Growing up in Virginia, I grew up surrounded by nature. Colorado is so different. The only word that comes to mind to describe it is mighty. Like I mentioned before, the only place I have skied that compares to this experience was Park City. I remember the hidden twists and turns in the woods, but there were more than I could count in Colorado. Overall, we went to Winter Park, Mary Jane and Steamboat and they were all distinctly different. Mary Jane and Winter Park were somewhat similar considering you can get from one to the other off of the ski lift. The views were jaw dropping and no picture could do it justice.

I love Colorado. At some point in my life, I will live there. I don’t know where but I think I would just be happy anywhere from Denver to a small town. I can’t wait to go back soon and tell you more about it!

Why I <3 Traveling

Why I <3 Traveling

Culture brings meaning to everyone's life

When I was three years old, my parents and I got on a plane and when we got to our seats I happily plopped into the window seat, buckled up, closed the blind, turned to my mom and said ‘I’m ready for my pretzels.’ Growing up, I had the privilege of traveling to many places around the United States as well as the world. Living in Vegas meant easy access to a large airport which led to many trips including visiting my grandmother in Michigan every summer, flying to Orlando to pick up a Volkswagon Bug with my parents and road tripping it back to Vegas, and visiting my mother’s family in the Philippines.

I’m writing this piece because I plan on writing more about the trips that I have taken and I want to give you a background on my travel life.

I believe that traveling is important because it exposes you to different cultures no matter where you are. Whether you’re an hour outside of where you live or on the other side of the world, you will experience something new and different. Traveling also makes me think about how many people there are in the world. I have a hard time perceiving size, especially how our planet currently holds 8.1 billion people that are currently alive. But traveling within the US or outside makes me think about how lives are being lived every single day. I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to experience these different cultures and There are so many more thoughts that come to mind about this when I’m out and about, but ultimately traveling makes me think about our world and how minuscule we are in the grand scheme of things.

I love traveling. Right now I am in a place where I can’t travel very often due to needing to save money. BUT, I want to do more in the future. I’m excited to share some travel stories in the future!
